In 1984 a core group of families and singles from Covenant Life Church in Gaithersburg, MD relocated to the western Philadelphia suburbs to plant a church. Leaving family and friends behind paled in comparison with the vision of reaching people in the Philadelphia area with the life transforming gospel message, through planting a local church.
People of different backgrounds, races and ages found their way to our church family, including quite a few disillusioned believers whom God brought to us for rest and care. Others heard that gospel for the first time and became new followers of Jesus.
As God added more and more folks to our church he began calling us to an increasing role of influence regionally and globally. Much like those who uprooted from Maryland to give us our church, we sent out hundreds of folks to start new churches in the northeast and around the world.
The uncertainty of leasing meeting space drove us to our knees to begin asking God for a permanent meeting place. Fifteen years of waiting for God's clear leading allowed us to save up funds for land. Yet we still lacked money for a building. Our members gave sacrificially and gave up vacations, savings, and renovations of their own homes to pay for the construction of our permanent home in Glen Mills. We moved into our new church home in September 1999.
Despite the large number of people sent out of our church to plant new churches, God has continued to add to our numbers here in Glen Mills. Many new folks have met Christ for the first time in our midst. When you drive onto our campus, we may seem like a large church. Don't let that intimidate you. At our heart we're a church of small groups which meet all across the region, gathering each Sunday to worship together.
So come join us for a Sunday, then stick around and become a part of our mission to reach our community with the life-transforming gospel message.
